'The Help': Making the lives of the rich and Famous more comfortable

In this week’s newsletter we take a look at some of the people who cater for the rich and famous' each and every whim and make sure that their lives run smoothly. They are the assistants to the wealthy stars, and even get to experience the glamorous lives of the rich and famous.

Butler – earns $100,000 or more per annum.

Taking care of things! You’re a hip hop star or busy executive, and don’t want to answer your own door, then a butler will suit your lifestyle perfectly. A lot of movies have portrayed the role of the butler, but what they don’t show is just how glamorous such a career could be. Imagine; you could meet some of the most influential people in the world if your boss was a high profile celebrity or even a well known entrepreneur, and don’t forget about driving around in luxury cars. A butler is the one person that takes care of your household, the front house manager that ensures that you, your guests, and home are taken care of at all times.

Celebrity Personal Assistant – earns over $120,000 per annum.

A job most people can only dream of! Being a celebrity personal assistant your job is to help your celebrity plan their schedule, screen phone calls and even plan parties. It is a fast pace career since you’re always traveling, going to special events and ensuring that your celebrity boss gets everything they need. Some of the perks include meeting famous people and receiving VIP treatment, as well as going behind the scenes of film shoots. Madonna and Angelina Jolie each have their own personal assistants, who get to experience their glamorous lifestyles and live like stars at the same time.

Private Chef – Earns between $125,000 and $250,000 per annum.

Cooking for the stars! Hip hop star Jay-Z once hired a private chef to cook over 100 chicken wings for him and his friends a night! Gwyneth Paltrow on the other hand, got herself two chefs - one for sweets and one for savory – to help her with her macrobiotic diet! If you’re a celebrity with a busy lifestyle or want someone to cook you diet specific meals, then get yourself a personal chef that you can even take with you when going on holiday. Celebrities tend to get fussy about their food since most of them can afford the best, and that’s when they go for personal chefs to satisfy their craving for something luxurious. The chef not only cooks the meals, but also does the shopping and cleaning afterwards. A nice way to have anything you want at any time you want it!

Nanny – Earns $100,000 per annum plus benefits.

Taking care of the kids! Celebrity moms always get nannies to look after the kids when their away on work and being a nanny means that you have to feed, dress, bath, do laundry and take the kids to school. Although looking after someone else’s kids does not seem like fun, the paid holidays, own cell phone, gym membership and vehicle along with a big salary and a chance to meet famous people, definitely makes up for it. Abbie Gibson had the opportunity to look after David and Victoria Beckham’s kids in 2005, and not only traveled around with them, but also a stole the spotlight on a few occasions.

Oh, the Rich has such expensive birthdays

This entry is about birthdays, and features the most expensive party, birthday gift and even most expensive cake. Birthdays are really special, so take a look at what some have done to make it even more special…

Most expensive birthday – $27.2 million

The Sultan of Brunei might have turned 60 this year, but his 50th birthday has to be the most memorable of all. After spending millions on caviar and the best champagne, the Sultan had to go one step further and fly in Michael Jackson for three performances that cost him 16 million dollars. Some of the guests included Prince Charles from England, and when you’re inviting royalty to your birthday you might as well host the most expensive birthday party in the world.

Most expensive birthday gifts in 2006 – Beyonce Knowles’s $1 million car

When Beyonce Knowles turned 25, boyfriend Jay-Z wanted to make her feel extra special, and so bought her a 1959 Rolls Royce convertible with an estimated value of $1 million. The car is iconic and a really expensive gift, but when it comes to gifts Mariah Carey’s has to be the most expensive this year. Mariah was preparing to perform in Madison Square Garden, when Prince Azim from Brunei, presented her with a $5.4 million necklace and matching ring.

Most expensive cake – $1.65 million

Delicious diamonds! Taking six months to create, this fruit filled cake is the proud work of an experienced Tokyo chef. Covered in 223 diamonds and unique patterns, the outside is a sparkling extraordinaire that will dazzle just about any party. Imagine the surprise on the face of your guests when you enter a room with this cake!

Most expensive birthday card – estimated at $56,000

A former art college secretary arrived at her surprise 70th birthday party, and found something more surprising than she could ask for. When former student, Damien Hirst sent her a birthday card, he tried to make the occasion extra special by sending one of his ‘dotted’ paintings instead. On the painting he wrote her a special message, and the painting is thought to be the most expensive birthday card in the world.

The rich always have the best time

Hi, Timepieces have always amazed me, and some of them truly become iconic in their own right. So, this week we’re decided to show you some of the watches that have become legendary as well as a watch that is destined to becoming a collector’s item. That is Jay-Z’s limited edition range of course…

Tour de l’Ile, Vacheron Constantin - $1,500,000

Only seven of these were ever made! To mark its 250th anniversary, the Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin created one of the most expensive watches ever made. They watch became an instant collector’s item, not only for of its exceptional price tag, but also because the name of these watches refer to one of the historical sites of the admired company, located on the Quai de l’Ile. The limited edition Tour de l’Ile is also one of the most complicated double-face watches(7,834 components), and is made with combination of astronomical indications, including a second time zone, sunset time as well as a minute repeater.

Patek Philippe Graves - Sold for $11,003,500

The Patek Phillip Graves, which featured 24 complications (mechanical features), was a result of a long-standing competition between 2 American tycoons. Both attempted to own a timepiece with the most number of complications and at the end, The Graves watch came out on top. In 1953 it was sold to The Time Museum in Rockford, but when it closed down, The Graves went up for auction and was sold for the astonishing amount of 11 million dollars. To this day it is one of the most sought after watches in the world, and those that ever dream of being the proud owner of The Graves will need to have a wallet just as enthusiastic.

L'Esprit des Cabinotiers - $1,783,000

With the traditions of 19th century timepieces and harmonious symbolism, the L'Esprit des Cabinotiers can only be described as being majestic. Its golden sphere engraved by hand is only one element which makes it phenomenal and when set in motion, the sphere opens up like a lotus flower to reveal the articulate mechanisms that makes it work. The indications are framed by hand with an engraved minute circle, itself surrounded by a circular zone that is perhaps the most angelic feature of all.

Jay-Z and Audemars Piguet Watch Line - Between $23,000 and $69,000

A legend in the making! Recently American Recording Artist, Jay-Z announced the launch of his limited edition high-end timepieces with Swiss watch maker, Audemars Piguet. Only 100 were produced, in honor of Jay-Z’s 10th anniversary in the music industry. Those lucky enough to own one will be able to choose whether their watch needs to be in stainless steel, a rose gold or platinum casing. To make the occasion even more remarkable, Jay-Z included a customized iPod that will come with the package.
